About Lillian Village

Lillian Village is a non-profit organization formed by a group of visionaries who ranks skill base education as number one for disadvantage youth. Its educational program is geared toward the average student who seeks opportunity to succeed. It provides basic skills, course tutorials, hands-on training by leading industries and other professionals. Advisors will assist parents/youth in Hinds, Chickasaw, and Tate counties to help our youth reach their full potential.
Lillian Village has been operating since 2012. Our objective is to actively engage the whole person in specific discipline trainings to help them excel in this rapidly changing world. We encourage youth to view our options before making hasty life decisions of dropping out of school. We understand that all students do not learn at the same pace, therefore, a skilled trade can be a great option to a successful career.
We strive to help average students gain self-confidence. We have awarded students in the past with scholarships to give them a start toward their goal. One of our students became a doctor; another studied in Costa Rica, graduated from college, and now serves as a tutor for our program. She also teaches virtual English classes to Chinese elementary students. Lillian Village awards three students a year when funds are available. When announced interested students will complete an application during the second semester of their junior year in high school. All other instructions will be announced.
Who is Lillian?
Lillian was an English instructor who wanted her students to become productive citizens. She believed that teaching basic skills, responsibility, and exposing them to hands-on experiences in and out of the classroom would help children identify their strengths and weaknesses. Once identified students would be enlightened to make improvements in the areas hindering their progress.
Today, Lillian has a village of professionals in her family from children to grand children to great-grand. There are IT programmers, doctors, engineers, administrators, a professional welder, educators, and biblescholar. Lillian was the daughter of Mr. Walter Collins, Sr., the founders of BI College in Hernando, MS that closed in 1960.
